It will contrast the "inclusive, empowered world" of Swifties with the extremist views of the arrested suspects.

It’s been more than two years since Taylor Swift was forced to cancel her Eras Tour shows in Vienna due to a terrorist plot that was intended to kill tens of thousands of people, a situation that will now become the subject of a new documentary.

As reported by Variety on Thursday (Nov. 5), Taylor Swift Wein is in the works from directors Andreas Pichler and Veronika Kaserer, and will premiere in October 2027. Following its initial release on German broadcaster ZDF, the project will be distributed internationally.

The news comes just a few months after a suspect known only as Beran A. was sentenced to 15 years in prison for planning to attack Swifties in and around the Ernst Happel Stadium — where Swift had been scheduled to play three Eras shows in August 2024 — with knives or homemade explosives. Aided by United States intelligence, Austrian authorities were able to arrest him and two other suspects linked to the plot before the attacks could be carried out, but the concerts were still canceled out of caution for public safety.

Investigators discovered that, leading up to the thwarted attacks, the three men had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State after being radicalized on the internet. This is one of three core areas of exploration the documentary will delve into, with a synopsis reportedly promising that Taylor Swift Wien will contrast the extremist, misogynistic online communities to which the suspects belonged with “the inclusive, empowered world of the Swifties,” many of whom gathered in the streets of Vienna despite the concert cancellations to sing songs, trade friendship bracelets and find comfort in one another in the face of near tragedy.

The other focus of the doc will be the authorities’ “ticking clock” investigations and ultimate prevention of the terrorist plot.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” Swift wrote in an Instagram statement a couple of weeks after the arrests. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives. I was heartened by the love and unity I saw in the fans who banded together.”

The pop star also addressed the terror plot in her own Disney+ docuseries, Taylor Swift: The End of an Era.

“We dodged a massacre,” she said in the December 2025 doc, which started filming as Swift prepared to perform in London less than a week after the events in Austria.
