Arkells are already looking forward to “Next Summer.”
The Hamilton, Ontario indie rockers reach the top 10 on the Billboard Canada Modern Rock Airplay chart dated Aug. 22. In its fifth week on the chart, the track jumps from No. 11 to No. 8. Arkells' “Next Summer” also debuts at No. 40 on the Aug. 22-dated Mainstream Rock chart.
It perfectly captures the energy of the warmer weather, with an upbeat sound that’s seemingly designed for summer nights and driving with the windows down. In true Arkells fashion, the track is effortlessly high-energy, but is balanced by the group’s pensive lyricism.

On "Next Summer," the five-piece grapples with the uncertainty of the future through an optimistic lens. “This song is a nod to the beauty and the mystery of what might lay ahead, and an appreciation of how we got to today,” shares frontman Max Kerman. “There’s a longing in the song, but it’s hopeful.”
Time will tell if the track hits No. 1, a feat the group achieved earlier this year with their chart-topping hit “Money,” with Portugal. The Man. This week, the chart has a new No. 1 song, as Cage the Elephant’s “Beaches In Tennessee” rises from 2-1, dethroning Death Cab For Cutie’s “Riptides.”
On Mainstream Rock, Nickelback’s John 5-featuring track “Rattle The Cage” moves into the top 5, climbing from No. 7 to No. 4.
The group’s single is a high-energy track built around heavy riffs, driving hooks and a fast pace. Featuring guitarist John 5, the song captures an atmospheric sound that captivates listeners from the first note. It’s the second single from the band’s forthcoming album, Everything Under The Sun — their first full-length album since 2022’s Get Rollin’, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart.
“Rattle The Cage” could follow in the footsteps of their No. 1 hit “Bones For the Crows,” which spent multiple weeks at the top. First, they’ll have to surpass fellow Canadian rock band Three Days Grace, whose track “Don't Wanna Go Home Tonight” sits at No. 2 this week, while Evanescence’s “Who Will You Follow” holds down the No. 1 spot.

There are a handful of homegrown acts that are sitting in the top 10 on the Airplay charts. On All-Format, Cameron Whitcomb’s “Kingdom of Fear” rises from No. 13 to No. 7, matching the track's placement on CHR/Top 40. Charlotte Cardin sits at No. 8 on AC, and at No. 7 on Hot AC with “The Way We Touch.” On that same chart, Preston Pablo’s “Cause I Do” climbs from 9-7 along with Tyler Shaw’s “Run To You,” which rises 10-9.
On Canada Country, Owen Riegling’s “Love Hate Love” scores a new peak at No. 4, and Tyler Joe Miller’s “Under the Influence” sits at No. 7. Mainstream Rock sees Finger Eleven’s “The Mountain” at No. 5, Theory Of A Deadman’s “Barricade” at No. 6 and Papa Roach’s “Wake Up Calling” at No. 7, while Metric’s “Victim of Luck,” Valley’s “Vending Machine” and TALK’s “Time Machine” sit at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 on Modern Rock, respectively.

At the top, Taylor Swift holds down the No. 1 spot on All-Format with “I Knew It, I Knew You.” This week, the Toy Story 5 track reaches the top on Country, knocking Morgan Wallen’s “Don’t We” to No. 2, as the two chart juggernauts battle it out. Olivia Dean’s “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” spends another week at No. 1 on AC, alongside Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drop Dead” on CHR/Top 40. Tame Impala and JENNIE’s viral hit “Dracula” holds down the top spot on Hot AC.
