Nickelback came storming back on Tuesday (July 14) with the bruising single “Rattle the Cage,” the first taste of the veteran Canadian hard rock band’s upcoming 11th studio album, Everything Under the Sun. The barreling tune featuring a thrashing guitar solo from well-traveled metal guitarist John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Mötley Crüe), finds singer Chad Kroeger howling, “With backs against the wall/ Has to be the one and one for all/ We face another day/ We raise the battle call/ Rattle the cage until it falls.”

The follow-up to 2022’s Get Rollin’ is set for release on Oct. 30, and, according to a release, it delivers the “complete spectrum of what has made Nickelback one of the biggest rock bands in the world. Across the album, towering arena-ready anthems collide with reflective songwriting, undeniable melodies, massive guitars, and the unmistakable chemistry that has defined the band for more than three decades.”

In a statement, singer/guitarist Kroeger said, “This album has every side of the band on it. There are songs that hit as hard as anything we’ve ever done, songs that take chances, and songs that remind us why we’ve been doing this together for so long. ‘Rattle The Cage’ felt like the perfect way to kick the door open — it has the energy we’ve been feeding off every night on stage, and we can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Speaking to Orlando’s iHeartRadio station WJRR, Kroeger described “Rattle the Cage” as about “going to a hard rock ‘n’ roll show and just letting out all your aggression, all your frustration.”

Coming on the heels of their self-deprecating 2023 documentary Hate to Love: Nickelback and their most successful tour to date, that year’s Get Rollin’ tour, the “How You Remind Me” band’s upcoming LP will also mark their first release with the Virgin Music Group.

“Nickelback have built one of the most remarkable careers in music, and it’s a huge honor for everyone at Virgin Music Group to work alongside a band with such an enduring legacy and global impact,” said Virgin Music Group president, North America Jacqueline Saturn in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner with them as they begin this exciting new chapter and can’t wait for fans to experience Everything Under The Sun.”

Earlier this week, Team Trump — launched during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign — shared an edited clip of Donald and Melania Trump watching a fireworks show with Swift’s 2020 Folklore track “August” playing in the background. Text over the video read, “Mood because it’s August and Donald Trump is your president.”
