Tate McRae is sharing details about her new single “Housewife.”

Last night (Oct. 7), the Calgary-born pop singer appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss the new track, out Oct. 15.

When Fallon asked if she was “allowed to say anything” about the song’s release, she said she was excited because “I haven’t released [music] in a while.” She shared some more details of the song. “It’s kind of about a woman who can’t be contained,” she said.

She revealed that the album art and presumably the music video were filmed in the South of France, describing the experience as “so magical and so fun.”

McRae went on to joke about her fans’ faulty detective skills, stating that “we drop easter eggs all the time,” a nod to the fandom phrase that alludes to hints or secret messages shared by an artist before a major release, but “they get none of them. They’ll always catch on to things that are completely wrong.”

One easter egg that fans seemingly missed, McRae shared, was the word “housewife,” which was featured on-screen during her Lollapalooza set. “This was literally in my Lolla set, when the set started. And that was three months ago.”

“Housewife” marks McRae’s first release since the deluxe version of her chart-topping album, So Close to What, which was the singer’s first-ever Billboard No. 1 album in Canada and the U.S. Following the deluxe release, the album climbed back to No. 2. It was led by her seething hit “Tit for Tat,” which became McRae’s second-highest charting single of 2025 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.

The track earned a fan in pop icon Taylor Swift, who was a guest on Fallon. During her interview, she shared that “Tit for Tat” was the best song she had heard recently that she didn't write. A year later, Fallon asked the Canadian star about her reaction to Swift’s stamp of approval.

“I was getting a whole bunch of texts and I was trying to find [the clip] and find proof,” she explained. “I had never talked to her and I didn’t know that she knew my music, and it was such a cool day.”

She continued: “[Releasing] ‘Tit for Tat’ was so stressful because I wrote the song like two weeks earlier,” McRae explained. “The process was so quick, I was so nervous [...], but it was nice validation.”

But music wasn’t the only thing McRae talked about. She briefly chatted about her first-ever fragrance, Tate 01, sharing that she had been working on it for a year. “I’ve always wanted to do perfume. I feel like it’s such a pop star thing that you have to do.”
