ADÉLA Reveals She Asked Nicole Kidman for Permission to Use Her Name on ‘Nicole Kidman’ Song
"I can't believe Nicole Kidman knows who I am," the pop star gushed during an interview with Pop Crave.
Adéla‘s “Nicole Kidman” is a manifestation anthem — so much that she ended up manifesting one of her favorite actresses becoming a fan.
Before releasing the song, Adéla made sure she had the Oscar-winning actress’ blessing. She reached out to Kidman’s team for permission to use her full name, admitting that you might not want to “use somebody’s name if they’re not OK with it.” In a recent interview with Pop Crave, the singer revealed that Kidman gave her the green light, and since the song’s release has been showing the Slovak pop star an immense amount of love through reposting the music video, talking about the song on social media and even using it in her own posts.
“I can’t believe Nicole Kidman knows who I am,” Adéla said. “To get the recognition from the person that you wrote the song about, and it being not just any person, it’s Nicole Kidman. Like, she’s a legend.”
Adéla isn’t the first musician to turn Kidman into a muse. Kidman’s ex-husband Keith Urban mined their relationship for a handful of songs over the years, including “Gemini,” “Without You,” “Steal My Thunder,” “Better Than I Am” and “Got It Right This Time (The Celebration).” Urban even confirmed that Kidman was behind “Steal My Thunder” — meaning Adéla is now officially part of an interesting Nicole Kidman songwriting lineage.
For Adéla, the approval was personally meaningful because the song is about someone she admires and an actress she loves. And while she’s seen lots of opinions surrounding her debut album, PRIMA, she said Kidman’s reaction makes the outside noise a little easier to tune out.
“I don’t even give a f–k about what anybody else has to say about it,” she said. “Because it’s like, Nicole Kidman loves it, and she knows me.”
Kidman’s stamp of approval is just one of many accomplishments Adéla can add to her growing list. PRIMA debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 earlier this month, with “Nicole Kidman” anthem reaching No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100. This follows the singer’s first chart entry, “Ain’t in LA,” which currently sits at No. 30 on the Hot 100.
