Two days after appearing to get into a heated argument with a female security guard on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, the Destiny’s Child alum opened up to the Associated Press on Thursday (May 23) about the viral video.

“The woman knows what happened. I know what happened,” Rowland told the outlet at the amfAR Cannes Gala. “I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.

“There were other women that attended that carpet who did not quite look like me, and they didn’t get scolded or pushed off or told to get off,” she added pointedly. “I stood my ground, and she felt like she had to stand hers.”

In the video in question, Rowland — who was in attendance at Cannes for the premiere of Marcello Mio — poses for photographers before a group of ushers leads her off the carpet. When one of them seemingly tries to rush her along by holding an arm behind the “Motivation” singer’s back, she turns around and appears to scold the guard, holding up a finger to accent her point.

As Rowland starts to walk away, the guard talks with a pair of nearby workers, which prompts the Mea Culpa star to turn around and add another remark.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the red carpet security at Cannes is famously strict in order to prevent delays in the festival’s schedule. The annual event reportedly prohibited selfies on the red carpet in 2018 for similar reasons, and the publication adds that guests who break the rules are “often met with their phones being grabbed or security covering the camera lens.”

Taylor Swift dominates headlines this week with her new album The Life of a Showgirl, but there are more new releases worth your attention as well.

Amy Millan has found indie rock acclaim via Stars and Broken Social Scene. She released her first solo album in over 16 years, I Went To Find You, back in the spring, to enthusiastic response. This week, she put out I Went To Find You (Redux), a four-track add-on EP comprising fresh takes on four of the original album's singles. These are described as having an autumnal vibe, "with a contextual, sonic vibe closely associated with Millan's first two albums, Honey From the Tombs (2006), and Masters of The Burial (2009)." The new cuts feature guest members of Bahamas and Zeus on various instruments, vocals, and production. Millan began a solo North American tour this week, and it will feature shows in Montreal, Ottawa, Lake County, B.C. and Vancouver.
