The singer-songwriter secures her first-ever entry on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, dated Feb. 7, as “Running Home” debuts at No. 88.
Powered by an infectious hook, it’s a lush indie-pop tune that finds LeMac lamenting on love, and digging into the feeling of security in a relationship. Complete with stacked harmonies, bright beats and pop-rock guitars, it’s hard not to bop your head as the track envelops you.
LeMac shares that the song was about “reassuring the person you are in a relationship with that you will always choose them, no matter how they might feel.” The track effortlessly illustrates this relatable experience through LeMac’s earnest songwriting. “If loving you (if loving you is) is the last thing I do, do / I'd live true, true,” she sings.
It’s already a proven hit on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts, initially securing a spot Hot AC back in October, before hitting CHR/Top 40 and, most recently, All-Format.
“Running Home” served as the lead single on LeMac’s acclaimed EP, It’s Always At Night, which marked her first release with Warner Music Canada/East West Records last November. The major last year and has already played some major shows, including Osheaga and an opening stint for country star Maren Morris.
LeMac is part of a cohort of rising stars who got their start on TikTok in the early 2020s. As she scores her first major chart entry, it’s clear her diaristic and catchy hits have charmed listeners.
On the Canadian Hot 100, LeMac joins fellow first-timer Sofia Camara, who debuted on the chart last September.The Toronto artist's track, “Girls Like You,” rises 52-49 this week, entering the top half of the chart. Both rising stars are set to take the stage at All Things Go Toronto, which returns in June.
Harry Styles is back.
After nearly four years, the British singer-songwriter has returned in full force, announcing a new album, Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, releasing a single and dropping tour dates in the span of a week — the latter of which doesn’t include Canada, we might add.
While it immediately hit No. 1 in the U.S, Styles' new track “Aperture” debuts at No. 4 on the Canadian Hot 100.
It’s a departure from the soundscapes of Styles’ Grammy-winning album, Harry’s House, as he trades warm and intimate nostalgia pop-rock for a moody, atmospheric palette that blends heavy, lo-fi synth beats with a slightly electronic vibe. Clocking in at a little over five minutes, it’s a slow-burning, club-inspired track rather than a concise pop song. With this extra room, Styles can let his walls down, as he sings about being vulnerable and letting love into his life.
“Allowing for more positive things to come into you life was a lot about what this song and this album as a whole was about for me,” he told BBC Radio 2, calling “Aperture” the “mission statement” for his forthcoming record, set to be released in March.
As for Canadian artists, Tate McRae’s “Tit For Tat” sits at No. 29 for the second week, while “Anything But Love” rises 98-87 and “Siren Sounds” re-enters the chart at No. 93. Country singer Josh Ross rises 42-36 with “Hate How You Look.
Daniel Caesar’s “Who Knows” hits a new peak at No. 50, along with Jamie Fine’s “homesick,” which rises 67-53. Five weeks after debuting on the charts, Owen Riegling climbs to No. 60 with “Taillight This Town.” Tedy’s “I Hope” jumps up 21 spots to No. 66, and Loud Luxury & Natalie Jane’s “UH OH!” re-emerges at No. 91. Cameron Whitcomb’s “Options” hits No. 97 as it re-enters the charts for a second time.
Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” remains at No. 1, where it has now spent 15 weeks in total, while Olivia Dean holds down No. 2 for the third week. Chart-topper Alex Warren climbs 4-3 with “Ordinary,” after previously spending 20 weeks at the top, second behind Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”
On the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, Zach Bryan’s With Heaven On Top spends a third week at No. 1, followed by Morgan Wallen’s I’m The Problem and Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl, both of which spent weeks at the top, with Swift most recently being dethroned by Bryan’s release. Metal giants Megadeth just released their final album, and the self-titled release comes in at No. 4. In the U.S., it's No. 1, marking their first No. 1 album in their four decade career.
