Gamiq, an annual award that showcases emerging, independent and alternative music from Quebec, has announced its 2023 nominees.

Jonathan Personne, who could win Artist of the Year, has a strong showing with three nominations for his self-titled album. Competing in the same prestigious category, Vanille (Folk Album), Les Shirley (Rock Album), and Philippe Brach (Indie Rock Album) each have double nominations.

In the New Artist of the Year category, three artists stand out with three nominations: Cure-Pipe, La Sécurité, and Narcisse. It's worth noting that other competing artists also have the potential to win multiple awards at Gamiq. For example, N NAO could be in the running for the Folk Album award for 'L'eau et les rêves' and the self-produced Music Video award for Lac Léman.

On another note, Kanen is vying for the Indie Rock Album award with his record Mitshuap, as well as for his single "Fuck That Shit." LaF (Rap/Hip-Hop Album, professionally produced music video), Double Date With Death (Rock Album, Animated Music Video), Super Plage (Electro Album/EP, Singles), VioleTT Pi, Antoine Corriveau, and Viviane Audet (Pop Album, Singles) also have great chances of winning.

The trophies will be presented on December 3 at Théâtre Plaza in Montreal during a ceremony hosted by Émilie Rioux and featuring music by the in-house orchestra led by singer-songwriter Margaret Tracteur. About ten artists have also been invited to perform on stage during the evening, including Population II, DVTR, Belle Grand Fille, Naïma Frank, and Calamine.

Lastly, it's important to mention that Gamiq has introduced three new categories this year: Podcast Music of the Year, Soul/R'n'B Album/EP of the Year, and Artist Representation of the Year.

Diljit Dosanjh Has Arrived: The Rise of a Global Star

The first time the Punjabi singer and actor came to Canada, he vowed to play at a stadium. With the Dil-Luminati Tour in 2024, he made it happen – setting a record in the process. As part of Billboard's Global No. 1s series, Dosanjh talks about his meteoric rise and his history-making year.

Throughout his history-making Dil-Luminati Tour, Diljit Dosanjh has a line that he’s repeated proudly on stage, “Punjabi Aa Gaye Oye” – or, “The Punjabis have arrived!”

The slogan has recognized not just the strides made by Diljit, but the doors his astounding success has opened for Punjabi music and culture.
