McRae earns three nods with “Nobody’s Girl” for best choreography, best pop and best dance video, while Drake’s “Janice STFU” and Bieber’s “Yukon” earn one nomination each.
Canadian artists could win big at the 2026 VMAs.
The full list of nominations for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards has been unveiled, and Tate McRae has scored a hat trick of nominations. The pop star has earned three nods with the music video for her So Close to What deluxe edition cut “Nobody’s Girl,” which is nominated for best pop, best dance video and best choreography.
It adds to her decorated history at the ceremony, after first being nominated as a push best new artist in 2020. Since then, McRae has established herself as a hitmaker, even earning her first-ever wins last year for best editing and song of the summer with “Just Keep Watching.” She also delivered a fiery medley of “Revolving Door” and “Sports Car” during the 2025 show, which earned its own Emmy nomination for best choreography this year.
This year’s nominations extend a hot streak of accolades for the singer, who recently launched her new era by dipping herself in liquid gold during her debut festival headline at Osheaga in Montreal.
Drake joins the list of Canadians nominated this year, with the video for his chart-topping single “Janice STFU” being up for the best hip-hop award. The breakout hit from Iceman earned him a landmark 14th No. 1 single in Canada and the U.S., plus the record for the most No. 1s in Canada among any artist, which he currently holds with Taylor Swift. The music video for the track was first premiered during his Iceman Episode 4 livestream and album premiere, during which the 6 God even took over the CN Tower with a live projection.
Justin Bieber rounds out the list of Canadians up for VMAs this year with his track “Yukon,” which is up in the best r&b category. The acoustic track is matched by its tranquil music video, an intimate black-and-white clip that features Bieber, his wife Hailey Bieber and their son Jack relaxing and spending family time on a boat, while out at sea. Earlier this year, he gave a stripped-down rendition of the track at the 2026 Grammys, returning from his four year-hiatus wearing only a pair of satin shorts and holding a guitar.
Madonna leads this year’s pack of VMA nominees with a whopping 11 nominations, fresh off the release of her Canadian chart-topping album, Confessions II. The album’s accompanying short musical film, Confessions II – The Film, is recognized in eight categories including the top honour, video of the year.
