Multiple Juno-winning singer-songwriter Serena Ryder expands her career horizon with a new live, two-hour radio show that is to be syndicated across AC stations under the Rogers Radio umbrella.

The initial eight-episode Serena Ryder Show season launches Sunday, Sept. 23 from noon to 2:00 pm ET, and will broadcast live from Toronto’s CHFI studios.

Rogers programming VP Paul Kaye tells FYI that the idea for the show came after Ryder hosted Pop Up Playlist in the spring of 2017. The semi-regular show runs on CHFI and other Rogers AC stations and features artists and celebrities taking over the station to play their favourite songs, chat with listeners and share insights about their lives.

“Serena was a natural,” on that show Kaye explained, “and the audience response was extremely positive. From there, we wanted to find a way to bring her back to our listeners on a more regular basis.”

“I’m so excited to have my own national radio show on 98.1 CHFI,” said Ryder in the same prepared media release. “Get ready to hear all my behind-the-scenes stories from touring – along with a chance to call in to ask me anything, and hear stories from ‘behind the songs’ with me and some of my friends. Radio waves here I come!”

  • 96.7 CHYM – Kitchener, ON

  • KiSS 100.5 – North Bay, ON

Justin Trudeau Helps Katy Perry Promote ‘Watch it Burn’ Single With Goofy TikTok Dance: Watch

The former prime minister hopped up and down with the pop star and friends to the silly clip.

Most pop stars don’t get politicians endorsing their songs, but Katy Perry isn’t like the others. The hitmaker promoted her new single “Watch It Burn” in a recent TikTok, which featured former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau — who just so happens to be Perry’s boyfriend — giving his seal of approval by letting loose to the track.

The clip posted on Thursday (July 9) opens with the musician outdoors in a bus lot, singing the lyrics to her June-released song in close-up. Then, as the beat drops, she starts hopping up and down, moving backward a few feet to reveal a group of people bouncing around as well. After a few seconds, Trudeau joins in, bounding into frame and looking at Perry adoringly before hopping away, his hair flopping up and down.
