The White House is using Bad Bunny and Drake songs to soundtrack videos promoting President Donald Trump’s deportation campaign, sparking backlash from fans and raising questions about the use of the artists’ music.
A video posted Thursday (July 30) to the White House’s TikTok account features Bad Bunny’s “La Mudanza” — which reached No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2025 — over quick-cut images of Trump, followed by footage of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detaining undocumented men and women. The video displays the lyric “un aplauso para mami y papi porque en verdad rompieron” — “a round of applause for mom and dad, because they really crushed it” — alongside altered text in the clip that reads, “A round of applause for Donald J. Trump because he really crushed it.”
The post’s caption reads, “We’re making America great again.”
The video, which the president’s supporters praised, also immediately drew outrage in the comments, with users writing, “I know you f–king didn’t!!!!,” “The audacity!” and “Do not disrespect Bad Bunny like that.” Others criticized the administration’s immigration policies, writing, “No one is illegal on stolen land.”
The White House followed the Bad Bunny post with another music-driven deportation video on Friday (July 31), this time using Drake’s “Hoe Phase,” the opening track from his MADE OF HONOUR album, which reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. That clip features helicopters, airplanes, footage of the U.S.-Mexico border and scenes of people being detained by ICE. Its caption reads, “Let us remind you if you’re here illegally, you’re going home,” while text in the video says, “Did you forget about back home?” — a lyric from Drizzy’s song.
Like the previous video featuring Bad Bunny’s track, the TikTok featuring Drake’s tune saw commenters critize the president, with several wondering “Did you forget about those files?” in reference to the Epstein files. (The president has previously denied any wrongdoing as it relates to Epstein.)
Billboard has reached out to representatives for Bad Bunny and Drake, as well as the White House, for comment.
The videos arrive as Trump continues to make the removal of undocumented people a priority of his administration. Since returning to the White House in January 2025, the twice-impeached president has expanded immigration enforcement and pushed for a sweeping mass-deportation effort, with ICE arrests and removals becoming a defining part of his domestic agenda.
Bad Bunny — who is from Puerto Rico, a territory of the U.S. — has been an outspoken critic of ICE operations and the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. At the 2026 Grammy Awards, the Puerto Rican superstar said during his acceptance speech for best música urbana album, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans, and we are Americans.”
Drake, who is from Toronto, has also spoken out against the president in the past. During the rapper’s February 2017 show in London on his Boy Meets World Tour, he shared his thoughts on the business mogul, who had just taken office for his first term. “Every day I wake up and see all this bulls–t going in the world, people trying to tear us apart, people trying to make us turn against each other,” he said at the time. “My proudest moment — take a look around at this room, you’ll people from all races and all places.”
He added: “If you think one man can tear this world apart, you’re out of your motherf–king mind. It’s on us to keep this s–t together. F–k that man.”
