Metric’s luck continues on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts.
Two weeks ago, the Toronto indie band’s track “Victim of Luck” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Canada Modern Rock Airplay chart, but was dethroned last week by Noah Kahan’s “The Great Divide." Now, Metric has come back for the top spot as their lucky hit rises 2-1 on the chart, dated June 20.
Nearly five months ago, the song debuted on Modern Rock and has since spent 18 weeks rising to the top. It served as the lead single for the group’s 10th studio album, Romanticize the Dive, released in April.
Metric — fronted by Emily Haines — firt kicked off their career in the late ‘90s, playing seedy basement shows and getting scrappy with their promotion. While it may be unconventional, their tactics have served them well, bringing them much acclaim in their home country and beyond. But with success comes uncertainty — it’s even the subject of “Victim of Luck,” Haines said in an earlier statement about the song.
Metric are part of a wave of nostalgia for 2000s era indie rock and "indie sleaze" that has helped this surge to the top of the charts. Currently, they're on a tour with their Canadian 2000s peers Broken Social Scene and Stars that will take them to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto this summer.
Three Days Grace’s Alienation is the gift that keeps on giving. The group has scored another entry on the Mainstream Rock, as “Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight” debuts at No. 36.
The eighth studio album from the Ontario rock giants has amassed multiple hits on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts, including “Mayday,” “Apologies,” and “Kill Me Fast” — all of which have hit No. 1 in the last couple of years. Billboard Canada covered that resurgence in a Global No. 1s cover story to end 2025.
Time will tell if “Don’t Wanna Go Home Tonight” joins the group’s canon of chart-topping hits. It's a nostalgic track for the rockers, who got their start in the early 2000s. Led by dual frontmen Matt Walst and Adam Gontier, the song reflects on their younger years. “I've been thinkin' 'bout the good times / When the story was still ours to write,” Gontier sings, with backing vocals from Walst.
The heartfelt track is accompanied by a throwback music video that finds the band in their hometown of Asphodel-Norwood, Ontario, and features old home videos and photos of the band members growing up.
Elsewhere, their previous chart-topping hit, “Kill Me Fast,” moves up one spot to No. 16, as the group secures two entries on Mainstream Rock at the same time.
There are a handful of Canadian debuts on this week’s Airplay charts. Electronic duo Pineo & Loeb’s collaboration with singer Jrdn arrives on All-Format at No. 49. It’s already made an impact on CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC airwaves, sitting at No. 18 and No. 33, respectively. Meanwhile, emerging singer-songwriter Alex Sampson hits No. 38 on Hot AC with “Misery,” joining its CHR/Top 40 placement, which climbs 27-24 in its fifth week of charting.
The chart-topping reign of Bruno Mars’ “I Just Might” holds down No. 1 on All-Format, AC and Hot AC, but Sombr’s “Homewrecker” might be coming for the top spot, as it rises 3-2 on All-Format. Meanwhile, Zara Larsson’s summer hit “Midnight Sun” maintains its No. 1 placement for a second week on CHR/Top 40.
Ella Langley tops Canada Country for another week with “Be Her,” as Riley Green’s “Change My Mind” climbs to No. 2. Nickelback holds down their No. 1 spot on Mainstream Rock, but Papa Roach is encroaching up the charts, as their track “Wake Up Calling” rises 3-2.
