This week, the R&B hip-hop hit covets a placement in the top 30 of CHR/Top 40. Plus, Vancouver sister duo Fionn secures a second track on Modern Rock.
Haviah Mighty & Shantel May are feeling lucky on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts.
The Toronto rapper and R&B singer’s duet, “Lucky,” claims spot No. 30 on the Billboard Canada CHR/Top 40 Airplay Chart, dated Jan. 10.
The R&B rap track debuted on Contemporary Hit Radio/Top 40 chart at No. 30 at the end of 2025, and hit its current peak (No. 28) last week, after spending just over a month on the chart.
Following Mighty’s radically anthemic single “OK!” last year, “Lucky” continues on a wave of positivity. It’s a powerful collaboration between two dynamic voices from the city, grounded in classic hip-hop rhythm, soaring harmonies and live instruments.
“Lucky” has a warm and groovy feel, as Mighty charms listeners with her signature coolness, rapping with confidence and openness that has become her niche in the Canadian hip-hop scene. May tackles the second verse with silky smooth vocals that perfectly balance Mighty's edginess, as the duo explores the complexities of love and luck.
Landing a spot on the charts is a major feat for Mighty, who has been releasing her work independently for over a decade and has been an avowed inspiration to fellow independent artists like Connor Price who have found ways to amass big numbers and chart success without the label machine.
Recently, the co-host of 2024's Billboard Canada Women In Music took to social media to express gratitude for the track’s chart placement: “Ain’t no way I’m still independent and pushing hip-hop on top 40 Canadian radio?!! 🤯,” she wrote in an Instagram story before dancing on her couch in celebration.
Speaking of duos, Vancouver twin sisters Fionn have charted their second song on the Modern Rock Airplay chart.
Following their track “Blow” hitting No. 1 for multiple on the chart last October, “I Put My Makeup On” arrives at No. 32 on Modern Rock this week.
Powered by the pair’s quintessential indie-pop sound, “I Put My Makeup On” is a melancholic track, featuring moody vocals, dreamy synths and relatable lyrics about the male gaze. It follows in the lineage of “Blow,” which stays strong on the chart, rising 8-6 for its 42nd week on the chart. “I Put My Makeup On” is a somewhat seething commentary on the beauty industry that has skewed women’s relationships with self-image.
“I put my makeup on in the mirror beside my bed / Drawing lines around my eyes but I don't feel better yet,” they sing.
On social media, the pair shared that the song was born after they discovered that the average woman spends around $4,000 annually on beauty products. “If you’re feeling social pressure to embark on a 2026 makeup haul, here’s the song for you.”
Canadian artists are scoring big on the Airplay charts this week.
On Modern Rock, Kitchener, Ontario singer BAD CHILD arrives at No. 39 with “Higher Ground.” Singer-songwriter Brock Philipps debuts at No. 49 on All-Format with “Something Else,” while emerging pop singer Jade LeMac’s Running Home” arrives at No. 30 on AC, following its placements on CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC last year. On Country, Drew Gregory’s “Work In Progress” comes in at No. 56. Justin Rybinski arrives at No. 59 with “Our Country Song,” while Loren Trof arrives one spot down with ”Down Home” at No. 60.
At the top, Taylor Swift continues her Airplay chart domination as “The Fate of Ophelia” sits at No. 1 on All-Format, AC, CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC. On Country, Tucker Wetmore’s “3,2,1” secures the top spot for a second week.
Over on the rock Airplay charts, Aerosmith & YUNGBLUD claim No. 1 for the fourth week on Mainstream Rock, while Winnipeg’s Boy Golden’s “Suffer” spends its sixth week at the top of Modern Rock.
