Invictus Entertainment has announced that its management client, Cory Marks, has signed a multi-album record and publishing deal with New York-based label Eleven Seven Music. Headed by industry veteran Allen Kovac, Eleven Seven works with such notable acts as Mötley Crüe, Five Finger Death Punch, and Papa Roach. Country-rocker Marks (formerly known as Cory Marquardt), is a native of North Bay, Ontario, who has been writing and recording with renowned Las Vegas-based rock producer Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne, Five Finger Death Punch, Disturbed) over the past two years. The first signing to new imprint Eleven Seven Nashville, Marks is expected to release music later this year.
– MusicNL welcomes 16 music supervisors, booking agents, festival programmers and more from the UK, US, and across Canada for the 2018 MusicNL Export Buyers Program. 16 artists from Newfoundland and Labrador will perform on the Export Buyers Program, including Sherry Ryan, Mark Bragg, LeRiche, and The Kubasonics. – A new album of original Leonard Cohen songs is being worked on by his son and producer Adam Cohen, CBC reports. In an interview on q, Adam states a new album can be expected in 2019. More here
– This week, The Rolling Stones announced release details of an archive concert film, Voodoo Lounge Uncut. Filmed in Miami on the world tour supporting the Voodoo Lounge album, this restored, remixed and remastered film contains ten previously unreleased performances. Featuring guest appearances from Sheryl Crow, Robert Cray and Bo Diddley, this new version also includes five bonus performances on all visual formats. The film will be released by Eagle Vision on Nov. 16 on multiple physical and digital formats.
– The nomination submission process for the 2018 Saskatchewan Music Awards is now open, with a deadline of 5 pm Oct 19. The awards will be held Nov 25 in Regina. Guidelines info here– Manitoba Music is seeking to hire a coordinator of the Francophone Music Development Program. This is a full-time contract position ending March 31, 2021. – Barbra Streisand releases a new album, Walls, via Columbia Records on Nov. 2, her first album of primarily original songs since 2005. A first single, “Don’t Lie To Me,” has just come out, and is described in a label press release as "a stirring precursor to the first Barbra Streisand album to encompass a unified social theme." Streisand shares production credits on Walls with Walter Afanasieff, John Shanks, David Foster, and Desmond Child.
– Singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron has made a name for himself as leader of Juno-nominated folk-pop combo Wake Owl. He is now readying the release of a debut solo album Sad & Easy, set for Oct. 12. Self-produced and recorded direct to 1/2" tape in Cameron's small LA studio apartment, the album is reportedly influenced by late '60s psychedelia. Here is an advance track.
– The ever-prolific Ontario songwriter/studio wunderkind Jordon Zadorozny (Blinker The Star) has another new project on the go. Entitled Lazy Ways, it is a collaboration with Jared Chaput, and Jordon says "As per usual, I play the gear and I let the boy sing. I call Jared the 'lumberjack Elliot Smith.'" Here's their debut track; one we dig a lot.
– Music BC’s Soundoff – A “How-to Series” event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4. World-class music supervisors discuss the ups and downs and challenges of music supervision as part of the VIFF Amp Summit. – The ECMA 2019 New Year's Eve Bash in Charlottetown, PEI, will feature performances by Joel Plaskett Emergency, The East Pointers and Hillsburn. It takes place on Dec. 31 at Delta Hotels by Marriott Prince Edward (18 Queen St,). VIP tickets ($100 plus taxes and fees) go on sale Oct. 2. General admission tickets ($50 plus taxes and fees) are on sale Nov. 5.
– Submissions are now open for the 2019 Music PEI Awards which will be handed out during Credit Union Music PEI Week from Jan. 23-27, 2019. Over 30 awards are designed to celebrate various genres, styles, solos, groups, industry professionals and community leaders. Read the guidelines here. Submissions deadline is 11:59 pm AT on Oct. 19.
– Two Canadian hip-hop/electronic duos, Awards (from London) and Danger Grove (from Ottawa), are pairing up for October shows in Ontario, Montreal, and Atlantic Canada, promoting their new albums. Awards release Warm Computers on Oct. 12, and Danger Grove delivers Want, For Nothing, Oct. 19. The tour begins at Guelph's ANAF Club 344 on Oct. 4, concluding at London's Life Of Leisure on Oct. 20.
