CMW Indies Award Noms Open For Voting

Canadian Music Week has announced the nominees for the 2018 Indies - the 18th annual Independent Music Awards - presented by Jim Beam with Indie88.


Notables include two of Canada's fastest-rising stars, R&B artist Daniel Caesar and Jessie Reyez, Iskwe and Pierre Kwenders, while the veterans include Gord Downie, Matt Mays, Death From Above 1979 and The New Pornographers, with pals Broken Social Scene and Stars duking it out in the Group of the Year category.

Performers on the show include The Rural Alberta Advantage, Said the Whale, Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs and the winner of the Jim Beam talent search.

The shindig shakes it up at the Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto on May 12. Public and industry votes decide the winners. To view the nominees and vote for your favourites, go here. The deadline to vote is May 1.

Donald Trump Slams Grammys, Threatens Lawsuit Over Trevor Noah Joke

In a lengthy post to Truth Social, Trump criticized the Grammys, the broadcast network CBS, and Trevor Noah.

Donald Trump has publicly lashed out at the Grammy Awards following jokes made during the broadcast, calling the ceremony “virtually unwatchable” and threatening legal action against host Trevor Noah.

“That’s a Grammy that every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland,” Noah joked as Billie Eilish was announced as the winner for Song of the Year. “Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton. I told you, it’s my last year! What are you going to do about it?”
