The U.K. singer tops three of the Canadian airplay charts, while Ontario rockers Three Days Grace lead the Mainstream Rock chart with comeback single "Mayday."
Welcome to our weekly airplay chart beat column, which will take a look at what's hot on the seven airplay charts that have recently debuted on Billboard Canada.
For our first look at the Canadian airplay charts, Myles Smith's "Stargazing" is the champion. The U.K. singer's ballad "Stargazing" is No. 1 on the Canada All-Format chart and Canada Hot AC chart, as well as rising to No. 1 on the Canada AC chart, which tracks adult contemporary. On the Canada CHR/Top 40 chart, "Stargazing" comes in at No. 3, while ROSE and Bruno Mars take the top spot with "Apt."
When it comes to the genre-specific charts, one of the most interesting is Mainstream Rock. There, Canadian band Three Days Grace hold No. 1 with "Mayday," their first new single with original vocalist Adam Gontier since 2013. The Ontario hard rock band, which scored its first Hot 100 hit in 2003 with "(I Hate) Everything About You," also scored their 18th No. 1 hit on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with "Mayday," putting them one behind Shinedown for most all time.
Canadian bands are having a good week on that chart, with Finger Eleven, The Sheepdogs and The Tragically Hip occupying the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 spots. On the Modern Rock chart, Ontario singer JJ Wilde is at No. 2 with "Mess To Make" and Vancouver alt-rockers Dear Rouge are at No. 7 with "Cutting Teeth," while Texas alt-rockers Dexter and the Moonrocks take the top spot with "Sad in Carolina." Morgan Wallen's "Love Somebody" is No. 1 on the Canada Country chart.
As for Canadians elsewhere on the charts, The Weeknd is blazing a path with "Dancing in the Flames" at No. 7 on AC Airplay and Hot AC and No. 10 on CHR/Top 40. Devon Cole's ode to friendship "I Got You" is at No. 9 on Canada Hot AC and rising country singer Hailey Benedict is at No. 9 with "Things My Mama Said."
