Steve Lacy is seemingly charmed by Drake’s backhanded compliment.
Nine months after the Toronto rapper called the alt-R&B singer his “fragile opp” in a livestream, Lacy still finds the humour in the situation.
Yesterday (August 14), in a conversation with Rolling Stone, Lacy was asked about Drake’s comment. The “Bad Habit” singer’s response was fairly complimentary, while he expressed an affinity for Drizzy’s music.
“I thought it was so awesome. I love Drake. I grew up listening to Drake and s—t, you know,” Lacy said to senior music editor Jeff Ihaza. “I was like, ‘This is so beautiful.’”
He continued: “I didn’t know what it meant — no one knew what it meant [...] I thought it was really sweet,” he explained. Lacy shared that he was receiving texts referencing Drake’s comment, but was ultimately confused, until one of Lacy's collaborators, singer Fousheé, sent him the clip. "I was like, ‘Whoa,'" he said. "I was so excited.”

The original diss came from a November stream with Drake and streamer xQc, when the rapper was listening to Lacy’s aforementioned top 10 Billboard Canadian Hot 100 hit.
“This guy’s like a fragile opp — it is a good song, though,” Drake said. “Chat knows what I’m talking about. Fragility.”
Many fans speculated that the rapper was taking a dig at Lacy after the California native performed at Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out concert last year.
Lacy playfully responded to Drizzy’s comments: “WAITTTTTT LMAOOOO WHAT IN THE,” he wrote. “Who tryna be my…fragile opp?” Subsequently, he reposted Drake’s statement about him and captioned his IG Story with “Yoooooooooo” while the rapper’s 2019 track “I Get Lonely” played in the background.
In yesterday's interview, Lacy revealed that he's planning to release his next album, OH YEAH?, in the coming months. It's the follow-up to 2022's Gemini Rights.keep readingShow less
