Valley’s ‘Vending Machine’ Dispenses a New Hit on the Billboard Canada Modern Rock Airplay Chart

Valley is scoring big on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts.
The Toronto trio are ushering in a new era with their latest single, “Vending Machine” which arrives at No. 34 on the Modern Rock Airplay chart, dated June 27.
Prior to the track’s release, the rock group — comprised of Rob Laska, Alex Dimauro and Karah James — spent weeks teasing the song on social media, building up momentum.
“Vending Machine” opens with the provocative question: “do you need to be entertained?,” but the group promptly answers the question, delivering three-and-a-half minutes of pure fun with playful lyrics and nostalgic alt-pop production. But there are sombre undertones, exploring the give-and-take that exists within relationships.

In the band’s words, the song is about “transactional relationships with people,” akin to an actual vending machine, “which exists to give things on demand. It doesn't have needs or emotions. People only approach it when they want something,” they say. “A source of comfort, attention, validation, or entertainment. It's love that depends on output, not connection.”
“Vending Machine” marks the Valley's first release since signing with Laurie Lee Boutet’s Wednesday Management last October, home to The Beaches and Alex Porat, among other artists.
Following the trio’s singing, Boutet told Billboard Canada that Valley’s new music was “some of their best yet.”
On the Hot AC chart, another Wednesday client, The Beaches, land at No. 38 with “Edge of the Earth,” nearly three years after its initial release. The track’s new lease on life is courtesy of Prime Video’s mega-popular TV show, Off Campus, which spotlights the Toronto rock act and their Coachella performance of the song in 2025 during a scene between the two lead characters, Hannah and Garrett.
In the show, Hannah asks if Garrett has ever heard of The Beaches, gushing that “their Coachella set will change [his] life,” before pressing play on the “Edge of the Earth” clip. It’s a track from 2023’s Blame My Ex, the album that skyrocketed the band into superstardom, much of which was credited to their hit “Blame Brett.” Now, it’s sharing the spotlight with the quartet’s latest hit.

Of the newfound appreciation for “Edge of the Earth,” the band said to Billboard Canada: “This song has such a special place in our hearts, and it's humbling to see how it's resonated with the rest of the world.”
On the All-Format chart, country act Kyle McKearney is looking out the “Rearview” at No. 49, while Francophone singer Gabriel Fredette’s “Le Bon Choix” arrives at No. 30 on AC.
Cameron Whitcomb’s Airplay chart success just keeps coming, as his song of the summer contender, “Kingdom of Fear” debuts at No. 29 on the Contemporary Hit Radio/Top 40 chart. Meanwhile, Canada Country hitmaker Tim Hicks is “The Pilot” at No. 58, and Chris Goodwin Band’s “Cause That Girls” arrives at No. 60.
Bruno Mars continues to hold down the No. 1 spot on All-Format, AC and Hot AC with “I Just Might.” Meanwhile, Zara Larsson’s “Midnight Sun” spends a second week at the top on CHR/Top 40, but following the release of Olivia Rodrigo’s third straight chart-topping album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, lead single “Drop Dead” rises 6-2.

On Canada Country, Ella Langley is battling with herself for the top spot, as “Be Her” spends another week at No. 1, while her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore” jumps 9-2.
Nickelback’s Wrestlemania hit “Bones for the Crows” stays at No. 1 on Mainstream Rock, but Noah Kahan dethrones Metric’s “Victim of Luck” with “The Great Divide,” as he reclaims the No. 1 spot on Modern Rock.
