Sarah McLachlan Releases New Single 'Gravity' From Her First Album In A Decade
The Canadian superstar releases her 10th studio album, Better Broken, on Sept. 19, followed by her cross-Canada Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour.

Sarah McLachlan is back. One of the most successful Canadian recording artists, the B.C.-based singer-songwriter has released her new single and video, "Gravity."
The track is taken from Better Broken, her first album in over a decade, which will be released on Sept. 19, via Concord Records. The second advance single from the album, and the first song written for it, "Gravity" is a piano ballad with deep emotional resonance for McLachlan, as it explores her relationship with her older daughter.
"For a long time my daughter and I had a very combative and fraught relationship, and what I came to realize is that so much of what I perceived as obstinance or rage was actually masking a ton of anxiety on her part," she explains. "We went to counselling together, and I learned that she felt so alone and unvalidated by me — which was devastating to hear, but it led us both to change the way we communicate with each other. I wrote ‘Gravity’ as a way of saying to her, ‘I’ve always loved you and want the best for you, and you’re perfect the way you are.’”

As McLachlan’s tenth studio album and first in a decade, Better Broken marks a milestone, and it is also her debut release for Concord. Primarily recorded at the famed Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, Better Broken features contributions from such noted musicians as Wendy Melvoin (a former guitarist for Prince and the Revolution), drummer Matt Chamberlain (Bob Dylan, David Bowie), multi-instrumentalist Benny Bock (Lucy Dacus, beabadoobee), pedal-steel guitarist Greg Leisz (Kacey Musgraves, Florence + the Machine) and a string arrangement by Patrick Watson on "Gravity." The album was produced with Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, boygenius) and Will Maclellan (Lucy Dacus, Phoebe Bridgers).
This fall, McLachlan presents her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Canadian Tour. Celebrating 30 years of her multi-platinum album (the album actually came out in Oct. 1993), the 17-date cross-country run begins October 15 in Victoria and wraps November 9 in Peterborough. Following sold-out shows last summer, McLachlan returns to Toronto and Montreal by popular demand. Acoustic harmony trio Tiny Habits will support all dates. See the full tour itinerary below. Initially planned for 2024, the anniversary tour was postponed because of McLachlan's vocal health issues.

The story behind that vitally important event is documented in a new feature-length film documentary, Lilith Fair: Building A Mystery. Directed by Ally Pankiw and produced by Dan Levy’s Not A Real Production Company, it makes its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September. The documentary will premiere in Canada on September 17 on CBC and CBC Gem, and in the U.S. on Hulu on September 21.
