Here’s Who The Beaches Have Shared the Stage With During Their Viral ‘Blame Brett’ Hops

The Beaches are having another viral moment.

During the live performance of the Toronto rock act's biggest hit, "Blame Brett," band members Kylie Miller and Leandra Earl have implemented a coordinated hop moment as they play guitar and bass. While it's been a staple of their set for a while, it has found a whole new audience on social media, and the band has leaned into it, making it a larger part of their concert and festival sets.

Back in the summer, Miller and Earl shared a tutorial on how to recreate the synchronized hop, and they’ve now widened it by bringing artists, actors and important people in their lives on stage to do the move with them. From Rebecca Black and the Off Campus cast to here’s who has joined The Beaches on stage to do the “Blame Brett” hops.

Rebecca Black

Over the weekend, The Beaches performed a festival set at All Things Go D.C. During their performance of “Blame Brett,” fellow artist Rebecca Black — hot on the heels of her recent album, Age of the Exhibitionist — joined them as a special guest to hop with Earl and Miller. The pop act scurried on stage in an all-black ensemble and bright red tights to join the guitarist and bass player. Initially foregoing her black conductor cap, the "Friday" singer, no stranger to viral moments herself, plopped it back on to hop across the stage.

The Off Campus Cast

Earlier this year, The Beaches scored a major synch in Prime Video’s Off Campus, the latest hockey romance drama to dominate a streaming service. Their 2023 hit “Edge of the Earth” soundtracked a major moment between the two main characters, Hannah (Ella Bright) and Garrett (Belmont Cameli). So it wasn’t a shock when some of the cast members — who are currently filming season 2 of Off Campus in Vancouver — surprised the band on the Canadian west coast to hop around. “the vancouver hops will go down in history,” the group wrote on Instagram.

Alex Coles

Over the summer, The Beaches performed back-to-back nights at The KEE to Bala in Muskoka. As the second verse of “Blame Brett” approached, they were joined by Toronto singer-songwriter Alex Coles, who is currently dating Kylie Miller and has joined the group on-stage a couple of times to hop during “Blame Brett.” In the comments, someone noticed that he had “been practicing” the hops, saying: “they were some solid hops.”

The Beaches’ Parents

At the band’s second night in cottage country, they turned the “Blame Brett” hops into a family affair. The quartet invited their parents on-stage to hop with Earl and Miller. While it ended up being quite crowded with eight additional bodies hopping along, it was a heartfelt moment for the pair to share the viral moment with the ones who raised them and have been instrumental in their musical career.

Picture Parlour

In June and July, The Beaches opened up for One Direction alum Louis Tomlinson alongside British indie rock band, Picture Parlour. In the final days of the band’s two-month stint, three out of the four Picture Parlour members joined the fellow opener to hop on stage — a true celebration of the camaraderie of opening acts.

Fredericton Spider-Man

During the band’s September headline show in Fredericton, they tapped the city’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man to do the “Blame Brett” hops. When they shared the clip to TikTok, they joked that it was promo for the latest superhero movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day — “the promo for the new spiderman is crazy,” they wrote and captioned the video: “Love u spidey.” The love was reciprocated by the Fredericton Spider-Man, as he commented: “Thanks for having me on stage! I promise I’ll start practicing my hops for next time.”

Since its 2023 release, "Blame Brett" has carried on a life of its own. Recently, it became the band's first-ever U.S. gold-certified single and has evidently remained one of their biggest songs.
