The world’s largest Desi destination festival is heading back to the Mediterranean.

Breaking Borders will return to Malta from September 3 to 6, 2026, bringing together some of the biggest names in Punjabi and South Asian music for four days of performances, parties and community-driven celebration. It's also loaded with Canadian talent.

After a successful inaugural edition in 2025, the festival is expanding its ambitions for its second year. The 2026 lineup is led by Karan Aujla, who will headline two nights of the festival — Friday and Sunday — with two completely different setlists, marking a first in the Punjabi-Canadian superstar’s career.

“2025 was just the beginning, and 2026 is about to be something special,” Aujla said in a statement to Billboard Canada. “This year, I get a chance to headline two nights with two different setlists. This is something I’ve never done before. This festival represents Desi culture on a global stage, and being a part of that journey means a lot to me.”

Canadian-Punjabi star AP Dhillon has also been announced as the Saturday night headliner, adding another major draw for the global diaspora audience expected to travel to Malta for the event.

“Malta, I’m coming through,” Dhillon said. “Proud to see how far our community’s reached. Can’t wait to headline Saturday and put on a show to remember.”

Beyond its headline acts, the festival’s lineup reflects the global spread of Punjabi music. Artists including Jasmine Sandlas, The PropheC, Tegi Pannu, Harkirat Sangha, BK, Panjabi MC and Miss Pooja are also slated to perform across the weekend. Punjabi artists Sukha and Prabh also hail from Canada, giving the festival a large Canadian contingent that also includes both headliners.

The event will also feature curated DJ takeovers from collectives Desi Beatz and Jawani 4eva, highlighting emerging voices and DJs shaping the South Asian nightlife scene worldwide.

Positioned as both a music festival and a travel experience, Breaking Borders brings fans to the island nation of Malta for a destination-style event combining live music, parties and cultural programming. Organizers say the goal is to create a global meeting point for the Desi diaspora while spotlighting the rapidly expanding Punjabi and South Asian music industries.

Tickets for the 2026 edition include three and four day options, with both general admission and VIP packages available.

The Breaking Borders presale began March 8, while general ticket sales opened March 9 via the festival’s official website.
