It's a holiday weekend, but Good Friday hasn't stopped the slew of releases on New Music Friday,.
Heading up notable new releases this week is GMINXR. Fresh from a Juno Awards performance, the internationally renowned Punjabi-Canadian producer now has his own release, Hit List, featuring Tegi Pannu and Zehr Vibe. It's out on 91 North Records, the label collaboration between Warner Music India and Warner Music Canada. The five-song EP is inspired by both golden era hip-hop and Punjabi folk music, and infused with GMINXR's trademark trap beats.
The ever-prolific Neil Young is also back, with the original soundtrack toCoastal, the film documentary exploration of Young's 2023 solo tour, directed by wife Daryl Hannah. The OST features 11 songs taken from that tour, and was released yesterday (April 17) to coincide with the one-night-only screening of the film worldwide.

Also out this week is Ciao To The Beauty, from enigmatic Toronto singer-songwriter Harkness, also the subject of a recent film documentary, Harkness (out now on CBC Gem). Anti Zyla 3 is another offering from prolific Hamilton songsmith Nick Zyla, and Ontario singer-songwriter Drew Smith delivers Leaf By Leaf.
A number of artists have also announced notable upcoming albums.
Canadian-turned-Kiwi roots/country vocal powerhouse Tami Neilson will deliver Neon Cowgirl on July 11. Having Willie Nelson as a big fan has boosted her career, and they're currently touring together. Check out her brand new video with JD McPherson below.
Another critically-acclaimed roots singer-songwriter, Ryan Wayne, releases his sophomore album, Functioning Dysfunctionals, on May 9, and Nashville-based Canadian hard rocker Royale Lynn releases her debut album, Black Magic, on June 27 on Epitaph Records. Award-winning Cree-Métis jazz-folk artist and film-maker Sandra Sutter puts out her third album, Shadow Stories, on June 13, and Hamilton hard rock favourites The Dirty Nil return with Free Rein To Passions, out May 26.
