Here is this week's Nielsen Market Watch report which features Canadian music stats for the current week and YTD with comparisons to last year. This chart is published every Tuesday. The abbreviation "TEA" is a term used to describe the sale of music downloads or singles. A track equivalent album is equal to 10 tracks, or 10 songs.
Madonna at The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, broadcasting live from the Peacock Theater on Sunday, September 27, 2026 on the CBS Television Network, and streaming live and on demand on Paramount+.
Madonna & Taylor Swift came into the night the top nominees, and they were also the biggest winners.
The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards took over LA on Sunday night (Sept. 27), and some of the biggest names in music gathered in the Peacock Theater to find out who would take home a Moon Person (or seven). Madonna was the telecast’s biggest winner, taking home seven prizes in total, including three onstage wins: artist of the year, best dance (her Confessions II short film) and best collaboration (“Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter).
The next big winner: Taylor Swift, who accepted the first-ever Artist Director Honors (before premiering her latest self-directed video, for her brand-new track “Patient Zero”) and returned to take home the final award of the night: video of the year for “The Fate of Ophelia”; she also won best direction for “Opalite.”
LISA took home the first prize of the night, winning best pop for “Dream” featuring Kentaro Sakaguchi, while Sienna Spiro was named best new artist after fans voted throughout the show.
Madonna came into the VMAs as the night’s leading nominee, with 13 nods, while Swift (who has won a record 30 Moon Persons) was second on the leaderboard with 11 nominations. Other top contenders: Sabrina Carpenter (nine nods); Ariana Grande (eight); Bruno Mars (six); and PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson (five each).
Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the VMAs aired live Sunday night on CBS. Performers and special honourees included Madonna opening the show; Kacey Musgraves performing a tribute to Dolly Parton; RAYE,SOMBR and Teddy Swims honouring George Michael; Nirvana receiving the Video Vanguard Award; and LISA, RAYE, Spiro, Shaboozey (with and without Gunna) and GENER8ION & Yung Lean hitting the stage.
