Felix Cartal feat. Regn: “Runaway”

Felix Cartal - “Runaway (feat. Regn):” (Physical Presents/Cadence Music): He has yet to release a full-length album, but Vancouver DJ/producer Felix Cartal has already made plenty of noise on the dance music scene. That is shown by his major achievement in gaining nominations in two categories at the Juno Awards this weekend, for Producer and Dance Recording of the Year.

He is the likely favourite in the latter category, for his smash hit remake of the New Radicals’ ‘90s single “Get What You Give" has gone gold in Canada and racked up over 19 million streams globally. Proving that was no fluke, other Cartal cuts have helped his Spotify channel generate over 75 million streams.

Expect that number to get a boost with his new single, “Runaway.” It features guest vocalist Regn (a young electro-pop artist from Chicago) to full advantage, with her pure voice neatly projecting the persona of the rebellious runaway. Sample lyrics: "They always say we know what's best, but fuck them anyway." Cartal contributes layered keyboards, and the dance groove it slips into is a catchy one. No surprise if this becomes a runaway hit.

The cut will be featured on Cartal's forthcoming full-length album, due later this year.

He serves as house DJ on the Junos telecast on March 25, followed by shows at O'Brian's Event Centre, Saskatoon (March 29) and Snowbombing 2018 in Kamloops (April 7), and then a residency at Drai’s Beach Club in Las Vegas, kicking off April 8.
