Here is this week's Luminate Data Market Watch report which features Canadian music stats for the current week and YTD with comparisons to last year. This chart is published every Tuesday. The Quebec-based math-rock duo have taken over the internet, as their latest release arrives at No. 11. Plus, Drake collaborator Julia Wolf debuts on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 with “In My Room.”
Angine de Poitrine have scored their debut entry on the Billboard Canada charts.
Following its release earlier this month, the viral Quebec math rock group’s latest album, Vol. II debuts at No. 11 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart, dated April 18.
It was only two months ago that the duo — who operate under the pseudonyms of Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine — were relatively unknown outside of their home province. In February, they performed on the radio show KEXP, which changed their lives forever. The performance went viral, skyrocketing the masked polka dot-clad duo into superstardom — the clip has early 10 million views.
“It was the perfect storm of really fun, really creative and it just connected with everyone,” Steven Himmelfarb tells Billboard Canada of the viral moment in his Executive of the Week interview. The Toronto-based music professional serves as executive vice president of The Feldman Agency, one of Canada’s biggest booking agencies.
Leaning into their virtuosic instrumental sound, Vol. II features some of the group’s biggest hits, including “Fabienk” and “Mata Zyklek.” The six-track album is a follow-up to 2024’s Vol. I, which picked up steam following the group’s virality. Their music even caught the attention of fellow Canadian artist Deadmau5, who teased via social media that he was remixing “Fabienk.”
Now, Angine de Poitrine’s online momentum has translated to their first-ever chart placement and multiple sold-out shows across the globe. “It all happened very quick,” Himmelfarb explains. “I don't think anyone was anticipating it to get so crazy so soon.” Over the next year, the exec shares that the duo’s lives will be “ridiculously tiring and hopefully rewarding,” as they decide their next steps.
Hitting the road this spring, Angine de Poitrine will perform a sold-out headline show at Montreal’s Club Soda on April 18. In June, they’ll hit up Toronto as the opening act for indie rocker Jack White on the same night as their first of three sold-out shows at the Mod Club.
Over on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, Julia Wolf invites Canadian listeners “In My Room,” marking Wolf’s first-ever solo entry on the chart at No. 70 two years after the song's release.
Throughout the past couple of years, the Long Island-born, Los Angeles-based singer has been on a steady rise on a global stage, earning her Billboard Canada’s first-ever Global Rising Star award at last year’s Women in Music celebration.
Praised for her unique voice and dark-pop soundscapes, “In My Room” gained major traction on TikTok, thanks to Wolf consistently promoting the track through visuals from the teen film series Twilight. Released in 2024, the track's virality pushed the singer from the indie shadows into a hitmaker, propelled by the film’s cult fandom on the app — now its following has carried over to the charts.
Since then, Wolf has garnered both industry and mainstream attention — including a DM from Drake, which led to “Dog House,” her high-profile collaboration with the Toronto rapper and Yeat. It peaked at No. 39 on the Canadian Hot 100. Last year, she teamed up with MGK on a cover of the Goo Goo Dolls’ ‘90s hit “Iris,” and was an opening act on the singer’s latest tour. She also had a big surge from recent collaborations with rapper Yeat and electronic star John Summit and is currently riding a major wave of momentum. She just announced a headline tour that is seeing upgrades as shows sell out on pre-sale.
Initially on Wolf’s sophomore album, Pressure, “In My Room” recently experienced a resurgence following the release of a namesake EP, alongside “Jennifer’s Body” and three additional tracks that weren’t previously released.
Of the few songs from homegrown acts on the Canadian Hot 100, Charlotte Cardin’s liberating single “The Way We Touch” reaches a new peak at No. 43 and Cameron Whitcomb’s “Kingdom of Fear” climbs 73-59. The Juno-winning country singer scores a second entry with love song “You & Me,” which re-enters at No. 71. Fellow country artist, Ontario’s Owen Riegling, hits No. 73 with “Taillight This Town.”
Following Casper TNG’s singing with Universal Music Canada, his viral hit “The Market” with 100BandPlan, rises 95-67. A few spots down, Loud Luxury & Natalie Jane’s electro-pop track “UH OH!” re-enters at No. 76.
Other additions to this week’s Canadian Hot 100 include: Temper City’s “Self Aware” at No. 55 — the Australian alt-indie group debuts 36 spots higher than in the U.S. Following a viral run on TikTok, Chris Rainbow’s 1989 soulful hit “Be Like a Woman” enters at No. 80. Speaking of the social media app, Los Angeles artist Malcolm Todd is building an audience on the platform, and his music is making waves on the charts. His song “Sweet Boy” arrives at No. 86, joining “Earrings,” which climbs 57-32.
At the top of the chart, Canadians are “Choosin’ Texas” for a second week, as Ella Langley’s country hit maintains the No. 1 spot. On the Canadian Albums chart, BTS' dedicated fans are keeping ARIRANG at No. 1, as it spends a month at the top.
