As the Montreal-born singer embarks on her next era, Cardin’s first taste of new music arrives at No. 28 on Canada AC. Plus, country artist Sarah Vanderzon debuts on the Country Airplay chart.
Charlotte Cardin's newest French single has hit the Billboard Canada Airplay charts.
The Montreal-born singer-songwriter’s new track “Tant pis pour elle” has debuted at No. 28 on the Billboard Canada AC Airplay chart, dated Nov. 8.
Co-written by Cardin and her collaborators Jason Brando and Ellie Blondeau, “Tant pis pour elle” marks the bilingual pop star's return to French-language music.
It’s a razor-sharp indie-pop hit that amplifies Cardin’s raw emotion. Translated in English as “too bad for her,” the track is a revenge anthem of visceral freedom.
While Cardin often sings in English, she spoke about the desire to write in French after her 2023 album, 99 Nights, which peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Canadian Albums chart. “I just felt the need to write music in French because after ‘99 Nights,’ we still felt creative and inspired,” she said in the Billboard Canada Woman of the Year 2024 cover story.
Preceding her sophomore album, she released a francophone EP, Une semaine à Paris, which featured the track “Feel Good,” a bilingual song that charted on the Canadian Hot 100 and was a viral hit in Europe.
"Being able to export my music makes me feel so good,“ she said. “It's even the thing that makes me the happiest. Ever since I was little, I wanted to make [music] my career, and it makes me even happier to know that it can do good for other people.”
Cardin is no stranger to the Airplay charts. The 99 Nights title track and the album's lead single, “Confetti,” ended up at No. 19 and No. 38 on Billboard Canada’s Year-End Airplay songs chart.
Canadian singer Sarah Vanderzon is scoring a new entry on the Canada Country chart.
The Québec-native’s song “Fortune Teller” arrives at No. 44. It’s a sweet yet soulful track that showcases Vanderzon’s vocal control and range as she sweeps through an energizing banjo-backed production
Last month, Vanderzon released her major label debut EP of the same name via Universal Music Canada. For Vanderzon, the song embodied the “light-hearted and fun” six-track project.
“The song itself is about finding the love of my life and, for the first time, not looking to the Universe for signs on if this relationship is worth it or not,” she told RANGE.
After winning the 2024 Emerging Artists Showcase at tastemaking Canadian country music festival Boots & Hearts, Vanderzon signed her major label deal, following a path also travelled by fellow winner and UMC country breakout Owen Riegling, bringing her country-folk sound to a bigger audience.
Since then, Vanderzon has developed a knack for effortlessly charming audiences with her honesty and relatable storytelling, which comes to life on Fortune Teller.
There are a handful of new debuts spanning across Billboard Canada’s eight Airplay charts this week.
Jamie Fine’s “Homesick” nabs a spot on All-Format at No. 38, while Owen Riegling’s “Taillight This Town” arrives at No. 42.
Justin Bieber’s viral hit “Yukon” debuts on CHR/Top 40 at No. 40, joining his chart-topping track “Daisies,” which sits at the top for the seventh week on the chart. After debuting on CHR/Top 40 a couple of weeks ago, Sam Drysdale’s “Cold Water” hits No. 31 on Hot AC.
Over on Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock, the Canadian-born, Texas-based group Black Pistol Fire arrives at No. 40 and No. 34 with their track “High Horse.”
After Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” dethroned Alex Warren’s chart juggernaut “Ordinary” on last week’s All-Format and Hot AC charts, Warren climbs back to No. 1 on the latter chart, joining his months-long reign on AC, dominating two of the four pop Airplay charts.
On Country, Morgan Wallen maintains his position with “I Got Better,” while Evanescence’s “Afterlife” maintains its spot on Mainstream Rock.
In a big Fall breakout, Vancouver band Fionn ascended to No. 1 on on the Modern Rock chart last month and are now spending their third week at the top with “Blow."
