Here is this week's Luminate Data Market Watch report which features Canadian music stats for the current week and YTD with comparisons to last year. This chart is published every Tuesday. The abbreviation "TEA" is a term used to describe the sale of music downloads or singles. A track equivalent album is equal to 10 tracks, or 10 songs.
This week also sees new releases from Amy Millan, AV & The Inner City and more.
Taylor Swift dominates headlines this week with her new album The Life of a Showgirl, but there are more new releases worth your attention as well.
Amy Millan has found indie rock acclaim via Stars and Broken Social Scene. She released her first solo album in over 16 years, I Went To Find You, back in the spring, to enthusiastic response. This week, she put out I Went To Find You (Redux), a four-track add-on EP comprising fresh takes on four of the original album's singles. These are described as having an autumnal vibe, "with a contextual, sonic vibe closely associated with Millan's first two albums, Honey From the Tombs (2006), and Masters of The Burial (2009)." The new cuts feature guest members of Bahamas and Zeus on various instruments, vocals, and production. Millan began a solo North American tour this week, and it will feature shows in Montreal, Ottawa, Lake County, B.C. and Vancouver.
Also out this week is a self-titled debut from AV & The Inner City, an all-female vocal group from Edmonton, The Best of Brenley & Lisa, a swansong collection from popular folk duo Madison Violet, punk rock trio The Penske File, with Reprieve, singer-songwriter Beauty in the Riot (daughter of much-loved late Jacksoul frontman Haydain Neale), with To Do, Albertan queer country artist Robert Adam's Governed by the Seasons and Topology Of Time & Up Express Etc. from Brodie West's adventurous octet Eucalyptus.
One major upcoming release announced today is Copies of Old Masters Volume 1, from Alexisonfire. On Nov. 7, the hard rock veterans are putting out this 4-track EP of covers, comprising their versions of '90s favourites by compatriots The Tragically Hip. Rusty, Shallow North Dakota and Doughboys. Speaking on the project, vocalist George Pettit shared, “This is like one of those things where you come up with the idea, you say it out loud and then you never do it. Well, we did it. You can We love fun.” Along with the announcement comes the EP’s first offering, Alexisonfire's take on the Hip classic “Fully Completely.”
