Allan Slaight Juno Master Class Artists Announced

By FYI Staff

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and Slaight Music have announced the four artists selected to participate in part two of the  2020/2021 Allan Slaight Juno Master Class program.

The named are Command Sisters, MonoWhales and Myles Castello from the GTA, and Shawnee Kish from Edmonton.

The three GTA acts were named by a jury of music industry notables, whereas Kish arrives as the 2020 winner of CBC Music’s Searchlight, an annual search for the next undiscovered act, and receive crucial tools to help guide their careers and help them become “Juno ready.”

“It’s been an honour to witness how the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class program has enabled talent to grow and thrive within the Canadian music landscape,” said Derrick Ross, President of Slaight Music, in a press release. “We are delighted to announce this year’s artists, all vibrant and impactful voices in the industry, who join the growing list of notable names that have had the opportunity of participating in the mentorship program.”

“I’d like to commend the CARAS team for their hard work in making the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class an invaluable asset for Canadian talent,” said Gary Slaight, President & CEO, Slaight Communications. “We continue to see the positive effect this program has on all the selected artists, and we’re thrilled to help foster this year’s emerging talent and bolster their profile in Canada and beyond.”

The short list of artists benefit from a customized program that will provide mentorship opportunities to help them succeed. Additionally, one artist will be invited to perform at this year's Music Canada-presented 2021 Juno opening night awards that routinely  attracts a ticketed audience of over 1,000 music industry guests.

This year the program received the largest number of applications in its history. As a result of this overwhelming response, the Master Class program, developed in partnership with Canada’s Music Incubator (CMI), was broken out into two parts. These changes were made to satisfy the much-needed demand for ongoing support to emerging artists impacted by industry shutdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Last fall, 10 artists (including those shortlisted) took part in a week-long digital program tailored to the mentorship needs of those selected.

MGK Shares Cute Pics of Baby Saga Blade on Daughter’s First Birthday

The "Cliché" singer shares custody of his little one with ex Megan Fox.

MGK is sharing pics from his infant daughter Saga Blade’s first birthday celebration. The “Cliché” singer posted a series of snaps of his second-born little one on Wednesday (April 1), obscuring the face of the child he shares with ex actress Megan Fox in a photo carousel of images from the baby’s first year.

In the first snap, Saga sits on a tile floor in a cute pink onesie with smiley faces and flowers on it as she reaches out to touch her dad’s black and white patterned sneakers, which match her checkered mini Vans. In another, the rap-rocker enjoys an al fresco lunch with 16-year-old daughter Casie Baker, who leans into her dad as he balances Saga — with the baby’s face obscured by a birthday themed emoji — on his knee.
