A Fictional TV Show About Céline Dion and Her Family Is in Development

Celine Dion and her family will be the focus of a new fictional TV show.

Its working title is Growing Up Dion, and will be based on Dion, A Family Saga, a memoir written by the singer’s nephew, Jimmy Dion. The news was confirmed to Deadline by the Quebec icon’s brother, producer Jacques Dion.

The series is set to follow Dion’s childhood in Quebec and her formative years living in a “modest, music-filled household,” highlighting her bond with her parents (Adhémar Dion, Thérèse Tanguay-Dion) and her 14 siblings — all leading to her path to global fame.

According to the report, it marks the first time the singer’s family has formally supported a dramatized adaptation of their lives.

“This series represents something deeply meaningful for our family, as it captures the spirit, struggles, and love that defined our upbringing,” Jacques Dion told the publication. “We are proud to finally share this story with the world in a way that feels true to who we are.”

Dion later told The Canadian Press that the series won’t solely focus on his sister’s career but will highlight the life and experiences of their mother, Thérèse, who passed away in 2020.

Céline, Jacques and Thérèse co-wrote the song that kickstarted her career in Quebec, “Ce n’était qu’un rêve.”

While it’s the first time the Dion family has been intentionally brought into the spotlight, Dion was recently the centre of her own documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, released in 2024. It detailed the singer’s experience living with stiff person syndrome, gave a behind-the-scenes look at her songmaking process and reflected on her relationship with her listeners.

“This is my love letter to my fans," she shared during the film’s premiere in Montreal.

No casting decisions have been announced for Growing Up Dion, but there is much intrigue about who will play the “All By Myself” singer.

Previously, she was played by Valérie Lemercier in 2021’s Aline and Christine Ghawi in 2008’s Céline. More recently, Tony-nominated Marla Mindelle portrayed the singing icon in the Broadway musical Titanique, a Titanic parody that retells the film’s events from Dion’s point of view. Notably, Dion penned the film's biggest song, "My Heart Will Go On," which helped to skyrocket her career globally.

The news is aptly timed with Celine Dion's current comeback. This fall, she will perform a string of residency shows in Paris — her first concerts since being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome four years ago. Her latest single, “Dansons” — her first in seven years — hit the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, debuting at No. 68 on the chart dated May 2.
