It's a nostalgic week for Canadian indie rock.
Today (June 6) sees the release of ANTHEMS: A Celebration of Broken Social Scene's You Forgot It In People – a front-to-back "reimagining" of Broken Social Scene's classic 2003 album. The album includes covers of every song by artists and mbands including Maggie Rogers and Sylvan Esso, Toro y Moi, The Weather Station, serpentwithfeet and more. The album coincides with the streaming premiere of the Broken Social Scene documentary It’s All Gonna Breakon Crave.

Other new releases this week include platinum-selling Vancouver rockers Mother Mother with their new album Nostalgia. This is a milestone 10th studio album, fittingly released in their 20th anniversary as a band. This month, Mother Mother play Canadian shows in Bala, Kitchener and St. John's before starting an extensive European tour. Dates here.
Popular indie rock veterans Born Ruffians reached their 20th anniversary milestone last year, and now return to the spotlight with Beauty's Pride. This is their ninth album, and first since 2021's Pulp. They play summer dates in Ontario, starting with Burlington's Sound of Music on June 13, and head to St. John's to play Iceberg Alley on June 27. Itinerary here.
Also delivering new work are acclaimed Vancouver singer-songwriter Suzie Ungerleider with Among the Evergreens, East Coast roots music favourite Lennie Gallant, with Shelter From The Storms (his first English album in seven years), highly-respected jazz veterans Monkey House, with Crashbox, Edmonton-based singer-songwriter-producer Abøn (Lauren Pedersen) with Wings of Adelaine, and award-winning Montreal soul vocalist Dominique Fils-Aimé, with Live At The Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Major new album announcements come from Polaris Prize-winning singer-songwriter, film composer, and pianist Patrick Watson, who will deliver a new record, Uh Oh, on September 26, via Secret City Records, and highly-acclaimed singer-songwriters Kathleen Edwards, with her collaboration with Jason Isbell, Billionaire, coming on Aug. 22, and Ron Sexsmith, serving up Hangover Terrace on Aug. 29.
