Céline Dion Hits the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 Chart With First Original Song in Seven Years, ‘Dansons’
Plus, Olivia Rodrigo hits the top spot with "Drop Dead," her third lead single to debut at No. 1 in Canada.

Celine Dion is back on the Billboard Canada charts with her first new single in seven years.
This week, the beloved Canadian singer debuts on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 with her comeback single, “Dansons,” at No. 68 on the chart dated May 2.
The emotional ballad marks Dion’s first time charting in seven years. It’s a lush, cinematic track that finds Dion returning to her roots, singing in French.
Singing over gentle strings, she shares a heartfelt message about the importance of continuing to dance even in the face of adversity. "Dansons pour être et rester droits/ Parce qu’on se le doit, pour tous les immobiles,” which loosely translates to: “Let’s dance to stand tall and stay that way / Because we owe it to all those who cannot move.”

It marks Dion’s first release in two years, following her cover of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne à l'amour” for the Paris Olympics in 2024. Further, it’s the singer’s first original music since 2019’s Courage, which solidified Dion’s 15th No. 1 album in Canada — it included the powerful hit “Imperfections,” which peaked at No. 69 on the Canadian Hot 100.
The release of “Dansons” follows Dion’s Paris residency announcement, which kicks off this fall — it’s set to be her first concerts since being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome four years ago.
Additionally, Olivia Rodrigo is celebrating a significant chart milestone on the Canadian Hot 100 this week.
The pop singer’s latest single, “Drop Dead,” debuts at No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100 — Rodrigo’s third lead single to hit No. 1 in Canada.
It’s the first taste of Rodrigo’s forthcoming third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, dropping in June — the follow-up to 2023’s Billboard Canadian Albums chart-topper Guts. “Drop Dead” marks Rodrigo’s fourth No. 1 in Canada.

“Drop Dead” is fans' first look at the concept behind Rodrigo’s new album, which she recently explained to British Vogue. “I realized all my favourite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them,” she said, revealing that her forthcoming record is full of “sad love songs.”
Arguably, it’s one of the singer’s first straight-up love songs, joining the endearing “So American,” a Guts deluxe track.
Elsewhere on the charts, the Justin Bieber renaissance continues. Following last week’s major surge prompted by his Coachella performances, the homegrown pop and R&B singer scores two top 10 entries on the Canadian Hot 100, as “Daisies” rises 10-3, and the Nicki Minaj-featuring “Beauty And A Beat” zooms 16-4, a peak that the 2012 song hasn't seen in nearly 14 years.
A slew of tracks from Bieber’s chart-topping album Swag have entered the charts, too. Following a viral TikTok moment, “Everything Hallelujah” debuts at No. 89, while “Speed Demon, “Walking Away” and “Go Baby” re-enter at No. 53, No. 85 and No. 94, respectively.
Swag climbs two spots to No. 2 on the Canadian Albums chart, potentially plotting to reclaim its No. 1 spot, where Ella Langley’s Dandelion spends a second week at the top. In addition, Bieber’s My World (EP) arrives at No. 70, marking his seventh album on the ranking at one time.

Towards the bottom, Punjabi-Canadian artist Shubh is making “Moves” as he arrives at No. 97 on the Canadian Hot 100. The high-energy Punjabi hip-hop track leans into the artist's signature flow as he discusses success, power moves and being self-made.
Cameron Whitcomb’s love song “You And Me” re-enters at No. 85, coinciding with the release of the B.C.-native's latest EP, Deep Water, which debuts at No. 88 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart.
