Elizabeth Phipps, Shantel Noel

Spotify Canada filled an important role at its Canadian office last year, bringing in Elizabeth Phipps as Artist and Label Partnerships Lead. With nearly 15 years in the industry, she has shaped campaigns for artists like Justin Timberlake and Travis Scott at Sony Music Canada and helped launch the Toronto AWAL office, where she championed breakout acts like Luna Li and The Beaches. At Spotify, Elizabeth led the platform’s 10th anniversary in Canada in 2024, spotlighting emerging voices like Cameron Whitcomb and Claudia Bouvette. She also promoted major milestones like Patrick Watson’s “Je te laisserai des mots,” becoming the first French-language song to hit a billion streams on Spotify. Shantel Noel, an Artist & Label Partnerships Manager, is another key member of the Spotify Canada team. Dedicating to amplifying Canadian music on a global stage, she led several impactful campaigns in 2024 including Spotify’s EQUAL program, which champions gender equity in the music industry by highlighting and celebrating female artists and creators and their work. The solidified team gives Canada an important voice at the powerful streaming company, which is arguing that its existing support of Canadian music should not require a 5% payout into a CanCon fund. In a recently released Loud & Clear report, Spotify reported that Canadian artists earned nearly $460 million in royalties on the platform, a 5% increase year over year, contributing to a near doubling of earnings in the past five years.
